He managed to get the Registrar to issue him a new identification, and the T was included, where the F or M traditionally came.
Colombia News.
Mike Durán, a native of Bogotá, made history in Colombia by becoming the first person to be issued a card with a gender: “T”, that is, “Trans”.
The 31-year-old had the “M” on his first document and then went on to fill out his identity card with the sex: “F” (Female), however, after an arduous legal battle, he was finally able to process his identity as I finally wanted.
«After having the T in the civil registry I began to do the process for the identity card, but they told me that it was not possible. In January they communicated and informed me that they had started the process and on February 14 they finally called me and told me that I could come and claim my new ID,” Mike said in an interview with Canal Caracol.
Mike received his new documentation at the Registrar’s office in Medellin (Opadi).
His desire to have a new identity in other documents does not stop, since he aspires that the passport and registration in his EPS be like that too.
Mike assured that in the past he experienced several moments of discrimination, and uncomfortable situations due to the letter “F” that appeared on his document with a photo of a man.
“It generated doubts in the people who requested my ID,” he added.
“With the T I won’t have to give so much explanation, few words to the understanding”, expressed Durán.
Various collective in favor of the rights of the LGTBI community describe this as a historic achievement.
