In SP, Vila Itororó receives the first edition of the Saudosa Maloca project

Vila Itororó, a cultural space in São Paulo that includes buildings from the 1920s undergoing restoration, this Sunday (20th) welcomes the first edition of the Saudosa Maloca project. The proposal is to promote meetings of classic sambistas and representatives of the new generation. At the opening of the event, the groups Arruda and Originais do Samba will perform, in addition to the duet Walmir Borges and Luciana Mello and the dj Evelyn Cristina.In SP, Vila Itororó receives the first edition of the Saudosa Maloca project

The programming of the Municipal Culture Department is part of the 22+100 action, which celebrates the centenary of the Modern Art Week of 22. The organizers emphasize that the project, which takes its name from a song by Adoniran Barbosa, “brings in itself the anthropophagic spirit of modernism, as it unites elements of Italian culture with the indigenous and African cultural roots that mark the history of São Paulo”.

Vila Itororó was used for housing purposes, but, given its historical heritage value, it was expropriated for cultural purposes in 2013. The first phase of the restoration of the space was delivered in 2019 and, since then, it has been open with artistic and cultural activities. As part of the centenary celebrations of the Modern Art Week of 22, this Saturday (19), the second edition of the Modernist Ball will be held, now at the Centro Cultural da Juventude (CCJ). The first edition of the event took place at Praça das Artes, in the central region of São Paulo. The guests will be: Shevchenko and Elloco, funk collective Heavy Baile; Je Treme Mon Amour party; Luísa and Os Alquimistas band; and the DeLua duo.

Other editions of Baile Modernista are planned for April, one in each region of the city. On the east side, it will be on the 2nd, at Teatro Flávio Império; the Grajaú Cultural Center hosts the program from the south zone, on the 16th; and the Casa de Cultura do Butantã is the stage for the dance in the west zone.
