President Pedro Castillo arrived in Santiago yesterday to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the president-elect Gabriel Boric and he maintained that Chile and Peru have many similarities and that their peoples are united by history and challenges.
“It is extremely pleasing to accompany the sister republic of Chile, where comrade Boric assumes a responsibility as a product of a democratic framework. It is also honorable to tell the world and Latin America that Peru and Chile embrace each other in a coincident space. At such a special moment in its history, where we have many similarities with Peru, we are united by history and the challenges for these peoples”, declared at the Arturo Merino Benítez international airport.
The president was accompanied by his wife. Lilia Paredes and Foreign Minister Cesar Landa. In the Chilean capital he also highlighted the joint tasks in health. “In the framework of the pandemic, we have joint tasks. I wish brother Boric the best of success and that his management be what the people need, ”concluded the Peruvian president.

In the Municipality of Santiago, Castillo had a private meeting with Boric, in which it was planned to discuss the Presidential Meeting and the Binational Cabinet of Ministers, suspended since 2020 due to the pandemic. Likewise, on the strengthening and expansion of the Pacific Alliance, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the inter-American dialogue in the Organization of American States.
Later, Castillo placed a floral offering at the tomb of former President Salvador Allende in the general cemetery of Santiago de Chile.
On his Twitter account, he addressed Boric and told him that “the population expects great social reforms hand in hand with sustainable investments. Let’s make the development of the great country a reality.”

Castle met with his counterpart from Ecuador, Guillermo Lassowith whom he addressed the progress made on the agreements of the last Binational Cabinet and the actions in social, environmental and integration matters in the Andean Community.
He also met with representatives of the Peruvian community in Chile, whom he greeted for helping to strengthen ties of friendship with the Chilean people and developing ventures to increase Peruvian trade.
