‘Yes, I accept’ campaign seeks the inclusion of the LGBTIQ community that wishes to form a family under civil marriage

The ‘Yes, I accept’ campaign, led by Fundación Iguales with the support of the United Nations and other Panamanian organizations, seeks to raise awareness about the equal rights of LGBTIQ + people. In particular, it is about the acceptance of civil marriage between people of the same sex in Panama.

Ulises Guelfi, director of said campaign and representative of this foundation, underlined the civil word, since it is not intended that any type of religion gives these people this right.

“In this campaign we highlight the values that all people have such as love, respect and family,” he added.

For his part, Roberto Marquin, member of the Association of Parents, Family and Friends for Diversity, said that “diversity is something that exists and will exist forever.”

As the father of LGBTIQ children, he pointed out that his children have rights and have duties to society that they fulfill.

He recommended that parents be informed because love always prevails.

Ana Carolina Rodríguez, lawyer and advisor to the Iguales foundation, mentioned that countries such as Ecuador, Costa Rica, Colombia, are moving in the direction of civil marriage for same-sex couples.

“Beyond the discrimination promoted by the current legal framework by not allowing same-sex couples to access civil marriage like heterosexual couples, currently same-sex couples do not have legal support to aspire to social benefits, public health, hereditary assets, apply together for a mortgage loan, buy your own home, “he explained.
