President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signs the decree that will regulate distance higher education in the country by February. The information was given this Wednesday (15) by the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, during an interview with radio stations during the program Good morning, Minister, produced by Brazilian Communications Company (EBC).
“President Lula will, if not this January, in February, sign a decree regulating distance learning in Brazil. This is not just a concern for undergraduate courses – 40% of nursing courses, for example, were already being offered remotely. How can you train a nurse remotely?”
Camilo recalled that, in 2023, the ministry had already determined that any distance higher education course must have at least 50% of the load being completed in person. “When we arrived, we were impressed. More than 84% of degree courses were 100% distance learning”.
“Now, the president will sign a new decree that will regulate distance learning. To say the following: the course must be 100% in person; certain areas can be hybrid – we are creating this category”, he said. “It will be another important step towards the quality of education.”
