Investigation against Lasso by Pandora Papers ends

The Constitutional Guarantees Commission closed the process and prepares the report, which will be discussed and approved on November 5, 2021.

Without the version of the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, the plenary session of the Constitutional Guarantees Commission of the National Assembly closed the investigations of the case Pandora Papers, on the management of resources in tax havens.

The advisory team is now expected to present the draft report, until November 3, so that the November 5, 2021 the legislative board debates the document for its approval.

Without Lasso’s version

The motion was raised by legislator Mario Ruiz (Pachakutik), by virtue of the fact that the Commission’s secretariat reported that the work schedule has been met and, therefore, all institutions and individuals have been summoned to provide information in this process.

During the appearances, various authorities excused themselves from attending, but in other cases, their responses, according to the assembly members of the table, did not contribute to the investigation that they carry on.

President Lasso, for two occasions, refused to appear before the Commission, arguing that the jurisdiction for this case belonged to the Comptroller’s Office, a body that has open two files against the head of state. The one is about the patrimonial declaration and the other on whether Lasso is the owner of assets or capital that are in his name or through companies in tax havens.

The legislator Paola Cabezas (UNES) He specified that public officials who did not appear must abide by what the Constitution and the Organic Law of the Legislative Function determine.

The president of the Commission, José Cabazcago, indicated that the report will be subject to what the table has managed to collect from the investigative work, so no criteria have been advanced, although the absence of President Lasso it altered the spirits. (RR)
