Hundreds of teachers from the Eligible Bank, from all the provinces of the country, marched in a massive protest towards the Ministry of Education, to report irregularities in illegal hiring of teaching staff.
The protesters, who did approve the Teaching Opposition Competition, They expressed their indignation at what they consider to be a flagrant breach of the General Education Law and the Regulations of the Teachers’ Statute.
According to the teachers, the Ministry of Education has prioritized the hiring of personnel who failed the competitive examination, to the detriment of those who complied with all legal and academic requirements.
Furthermore, they denounced that the Minister of Education, Angel Hernandez has ordered the hiring of auxiliary teachers at the initial level under precarious working conditions and without respecting established standards, which they described as a violation of fundamental rights.
The protesters also pointed out that these irregular hirings, which include the classification of teachers as administrative employees, represent a setback in the country’s educational quality.
Furthermore, they stated that this practice harms not only education professionals, but also students, who deserve to be trained by properly qualified personnel.
“The minister is betting on hiring less qualified people, because they are paid less and do not have labor rights,” the teachers denounced, emphasizing that these measures are undermining the teaching career system and violating several fundamental laws, including the Constitution of the Republic.
In the demonstration, the immediate dismissal of Minister Ángel Hernández was demanded, who is accused of:
- Violation of the General Education Law.
- Non-compliance with the Teaching Career System of the Dominican Republic.
- Administrative corruption in the Ministry of Education.
- Ignorance of the Public Procurement and Contracting Law and the Public Service Law.
