The celebrations of the 100 years of founding of the Florida province (December 15) took place this Friday in Samaipata, events that began with a solemn Te Deum in the Virgen de la Candelaria parish, which was followed by the raising of flags in the square December 15, where authorities of the Government, of the municipalities of Samaipata, Mariana, Quirusillas, Pampagrande, members of the Interinstitutional Council “200 years Always Libres”, paid tribute to the rich history and culture of the province.
The centenary of the province continued with various cultural and social activities that will last throughout the day, with dances from the region, musical interpretation by the Samaipata orchestra, declarations of poems that have reinforced the feeling of identity and belonging of the Floridians.
Historian Paula Peña highlighted the importance of this anniversary in the historical context of the region, remembering the key moments that have marked the growth and development of the Florida province throughout the last century.
“The Florida province is named in honor of that fundamental battle of the War of Independence, that of May 25, 1814, in the town of Mission de la Florida. Without the fight that was waged throughout this territory of the Florida province, the independence of Santa Cruz would not have been possible,” said Peña.
For her part, Patricia Viera, Secretary of Institutional Management of the Government, highlighted the importance of the Florida province by mentioning that in addition to being the cradle of traditions, cultures and values, it is a strategic region, both geographically and economically, due to its fertile lands where a large percentage of food is grown that reaches the tables of millions of Bolivians.
“In these 100 years, the Florida province, its people, hard-working men and women, have promoted their production, consolidating this region as a fundamental pillar in the development of Santa Cruz and Bolivia. Today we celebrate hope and the commitment to continue moving forward together,” Viera mentioned.
Along the same lines, the deputy governor of the province of Florida, Támara Gutiérrez, indicated that by commemorating the 100 years of the creation of the province it is commemorating a century of history, struggle, progress and challenges with a view to the future, taking into account that it is one of the most important regions of Santa Cruz due to its strategic location, its agricultural territory, its archaeological wealth and its tourism.
“Its ability to adapt to the challenges of the environment makes the Florida province a key actor in the economic and social development of Santa Cruz and therefore of Bolivia. Today we have reasons to be optimistic, our territory rich in natural resources, its working population and its strong connection with the land continues to make us one of the most productive regions of the department,” he indicated.
The Florida province will celebrate 100 years of its creation this December 15 and its authorities agree that throughout this time they have gone through times of prosperity and crisis; However, they consider that in this social economic context they face the future with optimism in their agricultural, livestock, forestry and tourist activity potential.
