Former Calderón and Fox officials aspire to be ministers

In the preliminary list of almost 11 thousand candidates for the position of judges released by the Evaluation Committee of the Legislative Power (CEPL), there are 394 who seek to compete for the position of ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice in the June electoral process. 2025. Among them are former officials of the PAN and Morena governments and members of the Judiciary.

One of them is the former PAN member Roberto Gil Zuarth, private secretary of Felipe Calderón, later a member of his cabinet and later a senator for the blue and white.

Likewise, Marisela Morales, former head of the then Attorney General’s Office of the Republic during the Fox administration, and who was deputy attorney general of that office and current prosecutor of Puebla, Gilberto Higuera.

Also seeking to be ministers of the Supreme Court are María Estela Ríos, who was the legal advisor to the Presidency of the Republic with Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Ricardo Peralta, undersecretary of the Interior and head of Customs in that same six-year term.

Likewise, the academic, jurist and former PT legislator, Jaime Cárdenas Gracia, is part of that preliminary list of aspiring ministers who complied with the documentation required of them; Judge Paula María García Villegas Sánchez Cordero, daughter of the Morenoist representative Olga Sánchez Cordero; Luis Euripides Flores, current lawyer for the Ministry of Public Education, and Jesús Georges Zamora, legal director of the government of the state of Mexico.

Likewise, the former counselor of the Federal Judiciary Alfonso Pérez Daza was included in that first list – the process to achieve the candidacy is still long.

There are, in addition, 310 candidates to join the Judicial Disciplinary Court who have already passed that first customs; Celia Maya, a member of the Federal Judiciary Council, and Sandino Luna, who has been technical secretary of the board of directors of the Chamber of Deputies and currently works in the Financial Intelligence Unit, stand out. To fill the two vacant positions in the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF), there are 117 candidates and many of them have been part of that body or its specialized and regional chambers.

Claudia Valle Aguilasocho, regional magistrate who was integrated into the upper chamber of the TEPFJ for the qualification of the last presidential election; Luis Espíndola Morales, president of the specialized chamber; Clicerio Coello and Gabriela Villafuerte, members of it, and the former head of that body, Rubén Lara Patrón, among others.

To seek to compete as candidates for 15 magistrates of regional chambers of that court, 406 professionals registered, the majority with electoral experience.

The bulk of the list is made up of 5,260 aspiring judges and 3,376 aspiring magistrates. The CEPL is now working to evaluate whether they comply with the technical knowledge necessary to perform the position and who have been distinguished by their honesty, good public reputation, competence and academic and professional background in the exercise of legal activityas established in the judicial reform.

Those who meet these requirements will be included in the final list of applicants, which the evaluation committee will announce on Sunday, December 15.

On the other hand, some errors were detected in the preliminary list, such as duplicate records or those that do not correspond to candidate names, such as the one that appears in place 295: Tests Tests Teststhe CEPL clarified last night that these are computer errors.
