After a session of emergency called for this Thursday by the disagreements with the authorities of the Health sector regarding setting a new percentage to increase to salary of the doctorsthe National Board of Directors of the Dominican Medical College (CMD) decided to paralyze all health services at the level national for 96 hours, starting on Tuesday, November 19th until Friday the 22nd.
“Last night we had a meeting at the Palace with the authorities, the most pressing issue is the issue of readjustment wage. Our proposal is 70%, the Government’s counterproposal was 10%. We spent two hours talking about it and the Government was very insistent on that 10%,” he explained. Waldo Ariel Sueropresident of CMD.
Suero explained that this 10% represents about 6,000 pesos, which, after legal discounts, is reduced to just over 2,000 pesos.
“We are not going to last 11 months of dialogue to finally come with two thousand or so pesos,” he commented.
According to the pediatric cardiologist, “there has been an avalanche of displeasure among doctorsof disagreementthey feel mocked with this proposal and the Board of Directors met as a emergencyunique theme about readjustment salary and the response that the Government gave us, and we resolved to make a strike national for 96 hours, four days, Tuesday the 19th, Wednesday the 20th, Thursday the 21st and Friday the 22nd”.
The strike call includes all hospitals public centers, primary care centers, health subcenters and hospitals of self-management. The attentions just for emergencies and patients in critical condition.
Ready for a year of struggle
The doctor insisted that the CMD will take your plan struggle “until the last consequences“, even extending the protests for an entire year.
“We are firm in our position, we want 70%, we reiterate it. We are prepared for a struggle long coming, a struggle very intense. We are physically and mentally prepared to last a whole year in this struggle. We remain open to dialoguebut without tricks, no more tricks,” Suero concluded.
