Dominican Republic got the headquarters of the XI Week of the Energy for Latin America and the Caribbean 2026, established by the Latin American Organization of Energy (Olade).
This was reported by the minister of Energy and Minas, Joel Santos, who has been in Paraguay, during the closing day of Olade 2024, event where he proposed to the board of ministers that the summit of Olade 2026 have the country as headquartersa motion that was approved unanimously.
Renewable infrastructures under construction
Santos reported that the Government advances in regulations to develop projects storage of energies renewable in the nation and specified that there are currently 1,200 megawatts of energy renewable in operation, with 1,000 megawatts under construction.
- When referring to the headquarters of Olade 2026 in the country, the minister assured that this meeting will represent a unique opportunity to strengthen cooperation and dialogue among the actors in the sector energetic of the regionin order to move towards a more sustainable and resilient future in energy terms.
During the meeting, the official pointed out that it is urgent for the country to accelerate the installation of systems of storagegiven the growing generation of energies renewable in the country.
This would facilitate the use of generated electricity during the day during peak hours eveningwhich would reduce the marginal cost of energy at night hours.
“Our regulations has been modified to require that parks solar panels with more than 20 MW install at least 50% of their capacity in batteries,” Santos said.
The edition in 2025
The next edition of the Week of the Energy will be held in 2025 in Chile, before Dominican Republic host in 2026.
These meetings are important in the context of the transition energybecause they encourage the exchange of experiences and strategies to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and move towards a matrix energy more diversified and sustainable.
The event is one of the main instances of dialogue political and strategic in matters energy at the regional level, and has the participation of ministers of energy of the 27 member countries of Olade.
