Short list to elect the new head of the CNDH will be defined on Wednesday

The ruling commissions for the renewal of the presidency of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) were summoned to a meeting for next Wednesday, in order to integrate the shortlist that will be voted on in the plenary session and in which it is not ruled out that it will be included. the current president of that autonomous body, Rosario Piedra Ibarra.

In the morning, the president of the Senate Human Rights Commission, Reyna Celeste Ascencio, reported that of the 47 candidates to become the next ombudspersonat least 10 candidates have been selected, from which the three finalists will emerge, who must appear before the Senate plenary session and then be voted on by ballot.

Ascencio only commented that among those selected is Rosario Piedra, in addition to the candidates from the states from Durango, Michoacán and Morelos, among othersbut there is no definition yet.

However, in the Morena parliamentary group there is already a proposal in favor of the re-election of Rosario Piedra, under the condition that she thoroughly restructures that commission, with highly qualified personnel.

The proposal is about to be discussed among all the members of the cherry bench and allies, although it has already provoked some mixed reactions, because some are promoting the current president of the Human Rights Commission of Mexico City, Nashieli Ramírez Hernández.

The Morenoist Manuel Huerta Ladrón de Guevara commented that for principles He is against re-election in general for any position, but if it is a consensual position among the legislators of the 4T that Piedra Ibarra continues as president of the CNDH for another period, he would join it.

At night, the presidents of the Human Rights and Justice commissions, Ascencio and Javier Corral, convened the third extraordinary meeting which will take place next Wednesday, November 6, in which the the shortlist of candidates to occupy the presidency of the CNDH for the period 2024-2029.
