The Panama Vale Más Sin Minera Movement has expressed its discontent at the National Attorney’s Office, criticizing the decision to file the complaint filed with the National Police in relation to the Aubrey Baxter case. The organization maintains that the authorities justified their action by alleging a lack of sufficient evidence. The movement also called on the Attorney General, Javier Caraballo, to be held accountable for various complaints.
Representatives of the organization delivered a document that demands greater transparency in criminal processes linked to mining. The response from the Attorney General’s Office so far has been that its request has been responded to by carrying out due diligence; However, they do not know the details of the procedures carried out.
On the other hand, they called on the new attorney to guarantee a more transparent handling of these situations and demanded that Javier Caraballo be held accountable before leaving office. Additionally, the movement questioned the viability of the “open to close” strategy, proposing an audit to ensure an orderly closure of mining operations.
