Eddy Alcántara: President Abinader demonstrated social sensitivity by not presenting tax reform

Eddy Alcántara: presidente Abinader demostró sensibilidad social al no presentar reforma fiscal

The director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara declared that President Luis Abinader demonstrated supreme social sensitivity with his decision not to present the announced tax reform to the National Congress.

Alcántara explained that the president made that important announcement to the country with the firm decision “not to affect the most deprived sectors of the Dominican Republic.”

“We have a president who always makes decisions thinking of producing the greatest benefit for citizens, as he did on this occasion with the announcement of not presenting the tax reform to Congress,” he added.

In this sense, he highlighted, which Abinader has shown in the little more than a year that he has led the nation, “that he is a person with great social and human sensitivity, who listens to everyone, works for everyone and benefits everyone.”

That is why – he continued saying – the Head of State will not charge citizens with taxes.

“President Abinader has received, with his decision, the support of the vast majority of the population,” he added.

“It was a wise, intelligent, but above all humane measure, thinking of the neediest sectors, which are not able to pay more taxes,” he said.

He also stated that with the announcement of not submitting the tax reform to Congress, the president also disarmed “the speeches without arguments by leaders of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the People’s Force.”

In that order, he recalled that the leaders of the main opposition parties increased taxes through “patches and fiscal packages.”

Instead, he highlighted the achievements in terms of savings and efficiency in the management of public spending in the administration of President Abinader, “and the proper handling of the pandemic crisis, social protection and economic recovery.”

“We, like the majority of Dominicans, salute the position of President Abinader in his speech last Wednesday, thereby demonstrating once again his concern for the most deprived sectors,” he finally stressed.
