A spokesman for the US State Department told the EFE news agency that it remains committed to achieving “a democratic solution to the political crisis in Venezuela.”
The US State Department confirmed the arrest of an American citizen in Venezuela on terrorism charges and said it was aware of information about two other detained compatriots, the news agency reported. EFE.
“We can confirm the detention of one member of the U.S. military and are aware of unconfirmed reports of two other U.S. citizens detained in Venezuela,” he told EFE a State Department spokesman.
The spokesman also denied the involvement of the United States in a plot to overthrow the current president, Nicolás Maduro. He described this accusation as “categorically false” and any claim of its participation in a plot to overthrow the government of Nicolás Maduro.
He also said that the United States continues to support “a democratic solution to the political crisis in Venezuela.”
On September 14, Diosdado Cabello, Minister of Interior and Justice, announced the arrest of three American citizens, two Spaniards and a Czech, for participating in an alleged operation aimed at carrying out “terrorist” acts in Venezuela, including the assassination of the current president and Vice President Delcy Rodríguez.

During a statement to the media, Cabello reported that security and intelligence officials seized more than 400 rifles and asserted that both the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and sectors of the Venezuelan opposition were behind the illegal entry of these weapons.
The Venezuelan minister also implicated Spain’s National Intelligence Centre, stating that, based on alleged confessions from people captured in connection with these events, Spain had contacted “mercenaries” of French and Eastern European origin to try to generate violence and assassinate officials of the Venezuelan high government.
The Spanish Foreign Ministry has also denied these accusations.
