They put into operation canine agricultural quarantine unit in the AILA

Ponen en funcionamiento unidad canina de cuarentena agropecuaria en el AILA

The authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture, the General Directorate of Livestock (DIGEGA), and the International Organization for Regional Agricultural Health (OIRSA) put into operation the canine unit for Agricultural Quarantine in the International Airport of Las Americas Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez.

According to the statement, this unit is intended to detect fruits, vegetables and meat products that could bring with them diseases that threaten the health of the Dominican Republic.

It was reported that with this service, national and international organizations take a step forward to control plant and animal health in the Dominican Republic.

The canine unit comes to reinforce both plant and animal quarantine services.

Engineers Rosa Lazala, director of the Department of Plant Health of the Ministry of Agriculture, participated in the activity; Manuel Durán and Miguel Ogando also from the Ministry of Agriculture; on behalf of the SAY Dr. Francisco Rodríguez Núñez, in charge of Animal Quarantine, and Dr. Jesús Martínez, in charge of the Single Window for Foreign Trade (VUCE), were present.

In addition, Alvin Rojas, Head of the Canine Unit, engineer Ana Lucía Melo, OIRSA representative in the Dominican Republic, and Dr. Celeste Moquete.
