The First Prosecutor’s Office against organized crime carried out “Operation Garra” with investigations in Panama, Colón, Coclé and Veraguas.
So far, two league players and one former player have been arrested.
This operation is related to a complaint filed by the Panamanian Football Federation for match-fixing by players in the LPF and PROM leagues, for crimes against economic order.
The Panamanian Football Federation issued a statement stating that:
The Panamanian Football Federation has launched a series of investigations into cases of match manipulation through the creation of a joint task force comprised of the FPF, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and FIFA.
As a result of this, a historic event occurred in our football with the arrest of some players and a former player for the purposes of a criminal investigation before the First Superior Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime.
From this moment, the people involved are temporarily suspended from all activities related to Panamanian federated football while the investigations by the Public Prosecutor’s Office continue.
