After three intense battles of speed and adrenaline, each one surpassing the number of fans and drivers, Autódromo Panamá announced the champions of the 2024 National Acceleration season, a milestone in the history of Panamanian motorsports.
The third and final date was unforgettable, all the Central American cars that competed improved their marks, among them Josue Rodríguez (Donga), 7.699, who obtained a Central American record, which demanded the maximum capacity of the national engines.
There is no doubt that one of the main protagonists of this season was Ariel González in his Chevrolet Camaro, with which he finished with 45 points, taking over the 8-second category; followed by Gilberto Vargas in his Datsun Coupe, with 24 points and Oscar Martínez in a Mazda RX7, with 11 points.
In the 9 seconds category, the podium of honor was occupied by José Carlos Ortega in his Honda Civic, with 24 points; followed by Germán López in a Mustang Shelby GT 500, with 15 points and Edgar Zamora in a GTR R35, with 13 points.
Christopher Lyma-Young in a Ford Mustang with 30 points; Edwin López in a Honda Civic with 22 points; and César Morcillo in an Evolution III with 15 points took first, second and third place respectively in the 10-second category.
In the 11-second category, the 2024 champion was Abilio Castillo in a Honda Civic, with 30 points; then very close behind were Edgar Atencio in a Nissan Sentra, with 29 points, and Juan Carlos Jované in a Supra MK5, with 15 points. Also distinguished for being the best in the 12-second category, Harold Gómez, with 29 points, and tied with 25 points, Gerardo Rodríguez and Diego Botello, a position defined in that order by the best time, all three aboard Honda Civic cars.
Driver José Jaén in a Nissan Sentra was the winner of the 13-second category, with 35 points. He was joined on the podium by Josimar Jean-Francois in an Acura RSX, with 26 points, and Luis León in a Nissan 370Z, with 23. In the 14-point category, Franklin Osorio in a Honda Civic was the season champion, with 20 points; while second place was decided by the best time, with Eduardo Tejada in a Honda Civic and José Cedeño in an Integra finishing in this order, with 15 points each.
In the 15-point category, Silka Zúñiga stood out in a Camaro with 24 points. Second place was marked by the best time, with two drivers tied with 15 points, with the honor going to Juan Rangele in a Mercedes SLK, followed by José Alberte in a VW Jetta.
The awards also reached motorcycling and in 600cc the track champion was Carlos Sánchez on a Suzuki GSX 600, with 45 points. In 1000cc Miguel Villarreal on a Yamaha Raptor R1 and Eduardo Reyes on a BMW S1000RR, finished with 28 points, awarded in that order in the tiebreaker, decided by best time.
