Our Olympic silver medalist in women’s boxing, Atheyna Bylon, received the Cultural and Sports Merit Honor Decoration from the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, at an event to honor our athletes who competed in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
President Mulino also announced that Atheyna will receive a prize of B/. 50 thousand for her outstanding performance, and that the rest of our Olympic athletes will receive B/. 10 thousand.
He also announced that the Centro Cuna de Campeones, on Cinta Costera 2, will be renamed after Atheyna Bylon. Another announcement was that the boxer, currently a Second Sergeant of the National Police, will be promoted to First Sergeant.
Atheyna and five other athletes from Paris (Hillary Heron in artistic gymnastics, Kristine Jiménez in judo; Arturo Deliser in athletics; Franklin Archibold in cycling and Emily Santos in swimming) were received by President Mulino at the Palacio de las Garzas, for a formal ceremony in the Yellow Room.
The B/.10 thousand prize will also be awarded to Christianson (swimming) and Gianna Woodruff (athletics), who were not present at the ceremony.
“Atheyna, our heroine,” the president said. “I thank you and all our compatriots who went to Paris. You are all valuable, and you all left our name very high.”
“This is a golden opportunity for Panama, which commits us to national sport and, above all, to the timely training of new and more young representatives who want to aspire to excel in sport and compete in the Olympics,” said the president.
President Mulino was accompanied by Ministers of State, as well as the Director of Pandeportes, Miguel Ordóñez, and the President of the Olympic Committee of Panama, Damaris Young, and presidents of the federations of different disciplines that had Panamanian representation in Paris.
