Following the arrest of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López, at an airport in Texas, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, congratulated the authorities who carried out the operation, considering the arrest of these people who “have caused so many deaths among American citizens” a success.
Since February of this year, federal authorities in the United States had accused Zambada of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute fentanyl that reaches U.S. territory and has caused many deaths among young people who become addicted to this narcotic.
In the case of Guzmán López, he is accused of distributing heroin, cocaine and participating in criminal activities.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) participated in the operation to arrest these drug traffickers. It is expected that both will appear before federal courts individually in the coming days.
