He University Academic Movement (MAU) nominated María Eugenia García Moreno for the rectorship and Tito Valerio Estévez Martini as Vice-Rector, this Tuesday the polls decided, in a second round, that this pairing will be the one to lead the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA) for the next three years. The former rector, Oscar Heredia Vargas, was left on the way.

MAU achieved 70% of the student votes and 53.53% of the teacher vote; while 100% UMSA that applied for Heredia obtained a pale 28.32% of the student body and 42.58% of the teachers. According to the weighting of the two results The winning duo García-Estevez achieved 61.79% compared to 35.45% for Heredia.

“The count has concluded, the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés has new authorities, Dr. Tito Estévez is the new vice-rector and I am the new rector for the period 2024-2027. grateful to the university community, with the teacher-student votebut also very committed to this result,” the new university authority managed to declare.

On April 16, the university elections were held in La Paz and, For the first time in many years, the day was not interrupted by violence. In those contests of the four fronts that fought for control, two received the most votes and had to go to the second round. This Tuesday that vote was held and the university decided on the change of authorities.

In the morning, the former rector, who was trying to be re-elected denounced that there was electoral fraud because they sent him marked ballots, however his complaint was unsuccessful and the electoral committee continued with the day.
