The Ministry of Health (Minsa) through the Department of Epidemiology reported that, during epidemiological week No. 15, corresponding to Sunday, April 7 to Saturday, April 13, 2024, 28 new positive cases of Covid-19 were confirmed, for a cumulative total of 1,060,142 cases since the pandemic began in 2020.
In this last epidemiological week, 1,400 tests were carried out, for a weekly positivity percentage of 2.0%.
Active cases
Currently, there are 53 active cases, of which 31 are reported to be in home isolation and 22 are hospitalized (21 in the ward and 1 in the ICU).
Recovered
The total number of recovered patients was 5 patients, corresponding to the last week, raising the total number since the beginning of the pandemic by 1,051,358.
Deaths
During epidemiological week No. 15, no deaths were recorded due to the virus, which brings the number of deaths to 8,731 throughout the country since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
Vaccination
For its part, the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) highlights that, from January 20, 2021 to April 8, 2024, 8,985,255 vaccines against Covid-19 have been applied throughout the country, of which 5,063 correspond to the new XBB vaccine.

Districts with the most cases
The townships with the most confirmed cases during the entire epidemiological week No. 15 are: San Félix, Juan Díaz, Bella Vista and El Coco (West Panama) with 2 cases respectively.
The MINSA states that preventive measures such as hand washing help protect oneself from the virus and emphasizes to people that if they present symptoms related to COVD-19, go to health facilities and get tested. Patients who could worsen the disease will receive antiviral treatments.
