The ministers of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, and of Defense, Braga Netto, participated today (16) in a meeting with their Russian counterparts, Sergey Lavrov and Sergey Shoygu, in Moscow. As it is a meeting between four ministers, two from each country, the meeting is classified in the 2+2 format.
In a statement to the press, the Brazilian chancellor said that the meeting between the four ministers reflected the maturity of relations between the two countries.
“Today, with Ministers Serguey Lavrov and Sergey Shoygu, we discussed 3 points, basically. Firstly, we discussed parameters to implement the Brazil-Russia strategic partnership in the field of research and development of common projects in the area of Defense. international situation, especially in our regions and we also address issues related to the United Nations Security Council”.
France also said that Russia is a world reference for Brazil in technological development, especially in the field of the Defense industry: “Brazil favors technology transfer opportunities and its international partnerships in this Defense sector”.
Also according to the Brazilian Chancellor, General Augusto Heleno (Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet) and his Russian counterpart signed an agreement for the mutual protection of classified information.
“It is important to emphasize that this agreement adapts the content of this international instrument, in addition to access to information in Brazil. The importance of this bilateral understanding is that we must have, then, facilitated cooperation in cutting-edge technology and sensitive areas”.
