The Freedom Tower, a 78-meter building inspired by the Giralda in Seville (Spain) and located in the heart of Miami, was closed in 2022 for a complete renovation.

In the building, originally created to house the Miami News newspaper, “The Refuge” functioned from 1962 to 1974, as the Cubans called it, although it was officially the Cuba Assistance Center.
The cultural facilities grant will help cover ongoing construction and restoration costs and create a new experience for visitors, the MDC said in a statement released Monday.
In a space of 36,700 square feet (3,400 square meters) spread over four floors, the MDC wants to “present deeper and broader stories about the future of the Freedom Tower and its role as a beacon of hope, opportunity and courage.”
