José Brito asks the Comptroller to report on the disqualification of María Corina Machado

Deputy José Brito said he aspired to the Presidency of the Republic, but he is not willing to accept the participation of disqualified leaders. In addition, he assured that he did not agree with the political disqualifications or sanctions that some opposition leaders have requested.

The deputy of Primero Venezuela, José Brito, filed an appeal with the Comptroller General of the Republic to request information on the status of the opposition leader María Corina Machado (Vente Venezuela) and other opposition politicians.

According to Brito, he delivered a correspondence to the Comptroller’s Office so that the status of Machado about a possible disqualification of the candidate from the primaries is publicly reported. «If she is disabled, what is she doing participating? If others are disabled, what are they doing participating?

On July 14, 2015, María Corina Machado received notice of her political disqualification for a period of 12 months. Therefore, this measure would be extended until mid-2016. According to what was reported by the journalist Eugenio Martínez, the Comptroller General never notified the National Electoral Council (CNE) of the end of the disqualification of the leader, despite the fact that the sanction was He turned almost seven years ago.

The National Primary Commission (CP), in its regulations on the elections, does not establish any impediment of this type against the candidates. They have reiterated that they cannot discriminate against any of the interested parties for decisions of a political nature with which they do not agree.

Within the primaries there are two other candidates with current disqualifications: Henrique Capriles (First Justice) for 15 years, that is, until 2032; and Freddy Superlano (Popular Will).

Brito, who said he aspired to the Presidency of the Republic, affirmed that he is not willing to accept the participation of disqualified leaders. In addition, he assured that he did not agree with the political disqualifications or sanctions that some opposition leaders have requested.

«The era of the seller of smoke pots has passed, the country must be spoken to truthfully (…) If any leader or person puts their name to aspire to the Presidency of the Republic, what are they looking for there? Generate frustration, hopelessness, look for some coppers? What are they looking for there?”, said the deputy.

He also said that this is a “responsible act with the voters”, and invited the disqualified leaders to put down their particular interests. “We don’t want them to keep putting us on a political trail.”

This is not the first request made to the Comptroller regarding the disqualifications of opposition politicians. He last june 7the politician Luis Ratti also requested a formal pronouncement regarding the participation of politically disqualified pre-candidates in the primary elections on October 22.

In another requestRatti asked that María Corina Machado, Henrique Capriles, Freddy Superlano, Juan Guaidó, Leopoldo López, Andrés Velásquez, César Pérez Vivas, Julio Borges and Carlos Vecchio be politically disqualified under the assumption of having requested “foreign interventions”, in addition “having constantly and actively supported the intervention and theft of Venezuelan assets.
