MIAMI, United States. – Agents of the United States Border Patrol and the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP, for its acronym in English) detained 13 Cuban migrants (11 adults and two minors) near the Dry Tortugas National Park, according to reported on Twitter Officer Walter N. Slosar.
According to official information, the migrants arrived at Dry Tortugas on Monday night in a homemade boat.
Since October 1, 2022, the beginning of the current fiscal year, Coast Guard crews have intercepted more than 6,700 Cubans.
“The Coast Guard and its Homeland Security Task Force will continue to be present in the air and on the water to detect and deter migrants from attempting to enter the United States illegally,” recently indicated the entity.
“Do not go to sea as it is a dangerous voyage and you could lose your life,” said Lt. Matt Miller, a District Seven officer. “Our maritime borders are closed to illegal entry into the United States. Attempting to do so will result in your disqualification for the process of parole from Cuba and Haiti”.
Despite the numerous measures taken by the United States Government to curb illegal immigration, Cubans continue to try to escape the island by sea.
Since the Biden administration launched in January of this year the program of parole humanitarian for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans, the US authorities have closed the siege on illegal immigrants, both on the border with Mexico and in the Straits of Florida.
Last April the US deportation flights to Cubaa measure that will speed up the repatriation of migrants from the Island who try to reach the northern country illegally, or who remain there without regular immigration status.
