Minister of Education reports that 62% of schools are prepared to receive students

62.2% of schools are prepared for the school year, which begins on March 7. The goal is to have 80% of the schools in good condition.

The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday De Villalobos, detailed, during a work tour, that around 1,800 educational centers still need to be adapted.

80% of the schools in Panama are 2,481 educational centers. “We are even buying materials and a series of implements to have the basic conditions,” said the head of Education.

For the return to school, the Ministry of Education (Meduca) expects to receive 740 thousand students from the official sector and 120 thousand in the private sector, almost 820 thousand students in total.

Given the expectations that there are about handling the coronavirus in the middle of classes, Gorday mentioned that “as long as we take care of ourselves, we lower the positivity rate and prepare for the return.” In December 2021, the Government published the 2022 school calendar in the Official Gazette, which marks the schedule for the return of all student enrollment to the face-to-face modality.

It determines that the first quarter of classes will be from Monday, March 7 to Friday, June 10. The second trimester will begin on Monday, June 20 and end on Friday, September 9. And the third term will be from September 19 to Friday December 16.
