MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban regime announced this Tuesday new migratory measures, which include the extension of the period of validity of passports and the elimination of the extension requirement.

The modifications were announced at a press conference by Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, General Director of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

The official indicated that the measures respond to the “continuous strengthening of Cuba’s ties with its nationals abroad.”

  • Extend the validity of passports to 10 years for those over 16 years of age and 5 years for minors, eliminate the extension requirement and reduce the cost of passports in consulates, setting a fee of 180 USD/Euros for those over 16 years of age and 140 USD/Euros for minors.
  • Equate length of stay in Cuba of Cubans residing abroad and their foreign relatives (spouses and children).
  • Establish, for emigrants before 01/01/1971, use a Cuban passport when entering Cuba; according to new Constitution.
  • The extension of stay abroad remains in force, beyond 24 months, automatic and free of charge, announced in March 2020, with the aim of supporting Cubans who were abroad during a critical period of COVID-19.
