Raúl Castro and Díaz-Canel receive the Russian Foreign Minister

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and former President Raúl Castro received this Thursday the External subjects minister of the Federation of RussiaSergei Lavrov, on his first working day on the island.

According to the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, at the meeting they discussed prioritized projects underway and perspectives for the effective participation of Russia in the Economic-Social Development Plan of Cuba until 2030.

The Russian Foreign Ministry itself reported on Twitter that they also “highlighted the categorical inadmissibility of unilateral restrictions that circumvent the UN Charter.”

Granmathat also reported the meeting, added that Díaz-Canel defended the search for a peaceful solution to the current crisis in Europe, through diplomatic channels, which guarantees the security and sovereignty of all, as well as regional stability and security, while condemning the unilateral sanctions imposed against Russia.

Castro, for his part, according to this source, ratified Cuba’s interest in continuing to develop ties between the two countries.

Lavrov had been received shortly before by Rodríguez, who thanked him for his country’s solidarity during the confrontation with the COVID-19 pandemic, with donations of food and medical supplies.

At that meeting, pickup by Latin Press (PL), Rodríguez expressed the gratitude of the Cuban Government for the “invariable position of the Eurasian nation in the demand for the end of the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba and for the removal of the name of the Caribbean island from the spurious list of sponsoring countries of terrorism”.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov begins working visit to Cuba

The Russian minister arrived in Havana on Wednesday night as part of a tour of several Latin American countries.

During his tour, Lavrov has met with the presidents of Brazil, Nicaragua and Venezuela; with the foreign ministers of those countries and, during his stay in Caracas, he spoke with his counterpart from Bolivia and with the prime minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, points out efe.
