This Friday, the Minister of Transport, Guillermo reyesin the company of Vice President of Avianca, Frederico Pedreiraannounced the measures taken by the National Government and the airlines after the closure of operations of Ultra Air.
Reyes mentioned announced the opening of new flights by Avianca that will cover the journey between the cities of Bogota, Medellin and Cali to and from the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.

“I must thank the Colombian airlines, which have been collaborating in this task of dealing with the emergency generated in terms of air transport, for the recent suspension of operations of the airline Ultra Air“said the minister.
The minister, accompanied by the vice president of Avianca, also explained that there will be 60 additional flights that the airline made available from these three cities to the archipelago during this Holy Week.
He also mentioned that the airline will operate a total of four flights simultaneously from Bogota (two flights), Medellin (one flight) and Cali (a flight) to Saint Andrew, which will take off at 1:00 am on April 1, among passengers seeking to return to their cities of origin and tourists affected the day Ultra fell.

Adding up the passengers affected by the VIva and Ultra Air crisis, Avianca has transported more than 95,000 passengers free of charge on a total of 60 flights, according to Reyes.
Finally, the minister assured that, for Easter, Avianca also offers additional capacity on its regular flights for Mondays and Wednesdays, with two round-trip flights, thus totaling a total of 82 flights to and from the archipelago, with more than 15 thousand seats available, until April 10.

Other airlines, for their part, have also participated in dealing with the air crisis. In the case of Latamthe airline has offered a flight San Andres – Bogotawith a total of 176 passengers, plus additional fees for passengers with reserved Ultra tickets at 99,000 pesos plus taxes and fees, as explained by the minister.
Wingofor its part, offered availability on charter flights, approximately 2,722 passengers and a series of flights in the rest of the year on the routes covered by Ultra.
The role of the Air Force
The head of portfolio assured that several aircraft of the Colombian Air Force (FAC)including the presidential plane, were also made available to deal with the crisis.

“It is important to mention that the FAC, since March 30, by instructions of President Gustavo Petro, has made three flights: two with aircraft 707 and 037 this March 30 at 3:35 am, which covered the San Andrés flights. – Rionegro, with 74 passengers; and San Andrés – Bogotá, with 50 passengers. On March 30, at 2:40 in the morning, the flight that covered the Cartagena – Santa Marta – Bogotá route, on presidential plane 002, carried 17 passengers from Cartagena and 13 from Santa Marta, for a total of 30 passengers“.
