The lack of educators in some schools not only has to do with administrative issues, because according to Minister Maruja Gorday de Villalobos it is also related to other factors that are beyond the control of the Ministry of Education (Meduca).
The minister explained that, for example, the 3,282 educators that were requested from different schools were appointed by Meduca, but in a single region 19 teachers resigned, another 300 did not take office and some presented their documentation to retire two weeks from having started classes, others who resigned their positions because their permanence in other stages of the contest came out, because that created an imbalance.
Gorday de Villalobos explained that all these issues are handled through a Selection Board that has other procedures. This week everything that can be done in this matter will be advanced, however, the committee has several weekends to work on these contests due to these situations.
“If a teacher retires, the director or supervisor is responsible for sending the information to start the replacement process, but there have been cases in which the vacancies were not sent and now we are in this situation,” said the minister.
Regarding the purchase of chairs, the procedures are done directly to the electronic portal of products that are in the catalog, which does not establish minimum amounts, this is open, according to Gorday de Villalobos.
“Everything generated by each purchase is published and many are direct purchases from schools, regional or national addresses. Only one company that appears in the catalog of the Public Procurement portal as a supplier of this type of school chairs and with these characteristics”, explained Minister Gorday de Villalobos.
