MADRID, Spain.- The Tourism authorities in Cuba recognized the inefficiency of the sector that negatively influences the long-awaited arrival of tourists to the Island by the regime.
“We believe that there has been a group of quality effects, mainly due to the lack of food and beverages and supplies, deficient service, insufficient leisure and entertainment activities in tourist poles, lack of maintenance in the facilities and unstable internet service” , said the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, during the balance meeting of the MINTUR this Tuesday.
Likewise, he referred to “complaints of assistance by national receptives” and “difficulties for refueling, both for aviation, as well as for rental cars and guarantees to the circuits.”
It is worth noting that in 2022, 1,014,087 foreigners arrived in Cuba, a figure much lower than the 2.5 million that the Government intended.
Despite the fact that the data on the arrival of tourists so far this year is not encouraging, Marreo Cruz insisted in which by 2023 the arrival of 3.5 million foreigners is expected.
According to the owner, among the measures to boost the sector are “transforming the ways of doing business structures, increasing attention and demand for good practices and quality in daily work, seeking to improve the quality and variety of food and beverages, promoting our strengths as a country”.
In addition, he indicated that it should “take advantage of the existing infrastructure to hold events, promote Cuban rum and tobacco, and cultural and heritage attractions.”
During 2022 Canada remained the first issuing market of tourists to the country; followed by Russia until the start of the invasion of Ukraine. While in terms of “the Cuban community abroad, the recovery was 53 percent.”
Last year Cuba was not included in the top list of destinations by Meliá and Tripadvisor.
The shortage, the collapse of buildings, fires, blackouts, popular protests were factors that contributed to foreigners questioning visiting the Island; factors that continue to exist this year.
