Cuba negotiates with joint venture management of international airports

OnCubaNews

The Ministry of Transportation (Mitrans) of Cuba reported this Friday that a negotiation project is underway with a JVwhose objective is the management and development of a group of airports international companies located in several provinces of the country.

Although the agency did not reveal the company that would be in charge of these functions, it transpired that the aerodromes involved in the plan would be Juan Gualberto Gómez, in the tourist pole of Varadero; the Abel Santamaría located in Villa Clara; and the one located in Cayo Las Brujas, according to a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

It was also learned that there is already an administration and marketing contract with a foreign capital company to guarantee the services of catering air and gastronomy in the air terminals located in Havana.

In the aviation segment itself, Mitrans confirmed that aircraft lease contracts from foreign companies are in force for domestic flight operations, and others dedicated to cargo, baggage and aviation fuel insurance services, according to the half.

According to the organization, this is one of the actions aimed at attracting the largest amount of foreign currency that allows increasing and improving the services for the population, in addition to the infrastructure and logistics of its facilities and resources.

The highest transport authorities explained that other foreign investment projects in the sector are in different phases.

Among these, one was mentioned for the transportation and operation of parcels, another for the construction, operation, and maintenance of a multipurpose maritime terminal in the La Bajada area, and a third for a mixed company for the administration of the Cabañas shipyard, in the Mariel Special Development Zone.

In turn, the organization’s Automotive Business Group promotes a possible agreement to obtain attention to the guarantees, technical assistance and after-sales services of the Hyundai vehicle lines, and another aimed at building a plant dedicated to the manufacture, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of parts and pieces of automotive equipment lines.

Railways in Cuba: the recovery train that still delays

Regarding rail transportation, the directors recalled that at the most recent Havana International Fair, a letter of intent was signed between the Union of Cuban Railways and Beijing Fang Lian to acquire parts and spare parts for Chinese locomotives, from through the project Modernization of railway workshops.

To this is added a collaboration agreement with another foreign company aimed at placing solar panels in the facilities of the Mariel Line.

The transport sector has been one of the hardest hit by the acute economic crisis in the country, exacerbated in recent years by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, United States sanctions and the ineffectiveness of internal measures to overcome the situation.
