The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported that the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) carries out telephone tests in relation to the corruption plots that have been disclosed in recent days.
He indicated that he does not rule out new arrests, according to a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office.
“There are new detainees linked to the corruption plot in PDVSA (Petróleos de Venezuela)… We are seeing telephone expert reports and seizures in which new elements will emerge that will lead us to other people,” he highlights.
Saab explained that a technical table with five national prosecutors, the National Anti-Corruption Police and the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) to investigate the facts.
“We are going to apply the full weight of the law against these subjects who sullied the names of their positions and for the discretion with which they acted to favor the interests of a few,” he added.
Likewise, it indicated that for months “it has investigated these plots with caution and discretion, with the secrecy that these detrimental acts to the national treasury imply.”
On the other hand, he recalled that they have already investigated 27 corruption schemes in Pdvsa and to date some 200 people have been prosecuted.
Since last Friday, the authorities have arrested several officials from the oil industry, as well as from the Judiciary and Legislative Power, for being involved in alleged acts of corruption.
