This Wednesday the South American Youth Golf Championship will start in the fields of Country Club Cochabamba (CCC), where 60 young athletes (30 per branch) will fight for the first places in the team, individual and mixed doubles modalities, in which Bolivia will try to reach the podium.
After the four qualifiers that took place in recent weeks, the national team is made up of: Benjamín Chávez, from Las Palmas Country Club (LPCC), Vicente Quiroga (CCC), Jorge del Solar (CCC), Constanza Quiroga (CCC), Sofía Blanco, from Urubó Golf Country Club (UGCC), and Victoria Suárez (UGCC).
They will all have Alejandro Olmos and Óscar Mariscal as coaches, who worked with the boys in the last two weeks so that they arrive in shape at the international event.
“We hope to fight for the first places Despite the fact that we have a pre-youth team, they are under 16 years of age, while the tournament is Youth, that is, under 18. We hope to give everything we can to reach the first places for the medal table”, Olmos indicated.
It will not be an easy task because there will be representatives of the 10 countries of South America and in each branch there are powerful teams.
“In the masculine, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina and Colombia are favorites, who by tradition are very strong without underestimating the other participants; and in women there are Argentina, Peru and Colombia, but we hope that Bolivia can fight in both branches”. he added.
International delegations arrived in the country since the weekend and they carried out the official practices on Monday and this Tuesday.
The event will be held until Saturday with its four rounds. every day It will be 18 holes for a total of 72.
There will be three types of competition: by teams, whose number of strokes will be added in each team women’s and men’s, singles and mixed doubles, which means that each nation will have three couples.
“For the purposes of this Youth South American, the court will play in the 6,872 yards from its marks for men and 5,838 for women, both par 72. The water comes into play in several of the holes of the course, with a demanding finish with the complicated par 3 of the 18th hole and the extensive par 5 of the 9th, the which will end the men’s and women’s competitions respectively”, indicates the press release of the South American Golf Confederation.
It will be the first time that the CCC will host an international youth competition. With this, it will become the third course in the country to host a South American.
“The first Youth South American contested on Bolivian soil dates back to 1970, at La Paz Golf Club and that it repeated its headquarters in 1991. Later, the actions were transferred to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, to Las Palmas Country Club in 2002 and 2012, arriving at this new edition with renewed spirits and expectations”, the statement details.
