This Sunday the Colorado Party launched its campaign in defense of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC) in Atlantis. In the midst of heavy rain and without an umbrella, the former President of the Republic and current Secretary General of the National Executive Committee (CEN) of his party, Julio María Sanguinetti, was present in the town’s Plaza Artigas and made a short speech.
In a video recorded and shared on Twitter by journalist Leonardo Sarro (@leosarro), Sanguinetti can be heard repeatedly reaffirming that the Colorado Party is “democracy” because, among other reasons, “we do not applaud dictatorships.”
Sanguinetti has actively participated in favor of not repealing the 135 articles of the LUC, ahead of the referendum on March 27. At the official launch of the official campaignon February 1 at the Legislative Palace, argued that “doing a rematch or second half (alluding to the 2019 elections) would be a very dangerous step backwards,” and called for showing the results of the government in this period.
