Last weekend in Colombia was marked by heavy rains that occurred in a large part of the national territory, leaving more than a dozen municipalities on alert for landslides and overflows of rivers and streams.
in dialogue with RCN Radio, the director of the National Unit for Risk Management (UNGRD), Javier Pava, warned that the winter season will last until July, so it is necessary to prepare contingency plans for possible landslides.
“We hope that the rains continue until July, so we have to be alert to any situation that may arise. In the last hours there have been heavy rains, especially in the departments of Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Huila, Cauca and Nariño, which could continue to occur during the month of April,” he said.

Pava pointed out that Cundinamarca has been one of the departments most affected by the rains, especially the strong hailstorms and gales that occurred this weekend.
“The transportation area already has strategies to deal with possible landslides that could generate road closures in the areas that we have already categorized and mapped by relief agencies. La Mojana continues to be the area most affected by the flooding of the Cauca River, there we have not been able to start the work to close ‘care gato’, which has again flooded this region, affecting crops and production areas,” Pava commented.
