The government has accelerated pace of capital spending so far this year, unlike what happened in 2021 and 2022.
In the first 69 days of budget execution of 2023, capital spending was RD$23,696 million and that represents 15.4% of the forecast for the full year.
The execution in constructions in progress was RD$5,874 million.
The Government’s fiscal deficit from January 1 to March 14 amounted to RD$53,318 million, which represented a reduction of about RD$10,000 million compared to last year.

The fiscal deficit was the result of RD$194,157 million in income and RD$247,539 million in expenses, according to the General Directorate of Budget.
The payment of interest on the public debt was RD$50,874 million, out of a total budgeted for the entire year of RD$225,621 million.
The primary result, which is the one that discounts the interest on the public debt, was –RD$2,507 million.
The financial sources totaled RD$164.121 million and financial applications RD$13.121 million.
The Government institutions with the highest spending were Administration of Public Debt and Financial Assets, with RD$78.621 million; the Ministry of Education, with RD$35.620 million; Ministry of Public Health, with RD$29,799 million; Administration of Obligations of the National Treasury, with RD$22,028 million, and the Presidency of the Republic, with RD$21,074 million.
Regarding the functional classification of the budget, RD$95.102 million in social services; RD$78,862 million corresponded to interest and commissions of the public debt, RD$38,054 million in economic services and RD$34,665 million in general services. The amount of consumption expenses amounted to RD$62,812 million and RD$16,147 million was executed in energy and fuels.
