Santo Domingo.-The Central Committee of the opposition Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) will meet again on Sunday, March 26, to learn about the Political Committee’s proposal that the poll method be used to elect the majority of candidates with a view to the 2024 general elections.
“We agreed to convene the Central Committee for Sunday, March 26, and the decision that the Political Committee will take to that meeting is that the method used for the selection of senators, deputies, mayors, and district directors is fundamentally the method of surveys and in In the case of councilors and members, the method of choosing the candidates will be the semi-open primaries,” said Francisco Javier García, National Campaign Coordinator of the PLDduring a press conference after the meeting of the Political Committee, in the excused absence of the Secretary General, Charles Mariotti.
He maintained that this decision must be known by the Central Committee, although the Political Committee discussed the procedure and will take the proposal to the former.
The proposal that the Central Committee will hear was approved this Tuesday by the Political Committee, the highest instance of the organization, at the regular meeting that corresponds to March, headed by the former President of the Republic, Danilo Medinapresident of the PLD, along with Abel Martínez, presidential candidate, the two vice presidents of the organization, Temístocles Montás and Juan Ariel Jiménez, and the former vice president of the Republic, Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, a meeting that took place at the National House, Reinaldo Pared Pérez.

He said that it was also agreed that in those places where the candidates are selected or are selected by consensus, the procedure to be used is the assembly of delegates of the corresponding demarcation, explaining that what is established by the Law regarding to the reserve of candidatures.
“It turns out that the law establishes a percentage of only 20 percent in this case of deputies, of mayors, but when accounting for the number of deputies and mayors we have, the number exceeds that 20 percent and consequently We did not make a reservation in this case, but rather all the colleagues who occupy that position and the applicants will have the opportunity to participate in the October process, which is the date when these candidacies must be chosen,” he said.
“Based on the polls, it is a system that at some point the PLD has used, we have used both systems, the primary ones, the consensus ones, and the survey ones,” he added.
The meeting began at 10:20 in the morning and concluded at 12:50 in the afternoon with the summary given to the press.

In this specific case, the Political Committee received the report of said commission, headed by Alejandrina Germán, regarding the secretariats that were pending election and were chosen at the last meeting of the Central Committee, which had already been made known to the press but as a procedure the complete information of the same was made.

When responding to a journalistic concern, García recalled that Abel Martínez was selected in an open citizen consultation with the participation of more than half a million citizens, under an agreement signed by the applicants for that position, endorsed by the Political and Central Committee that the applicant chosen “would be our Presidential Candidate.”
