The businesses of three business unions expressed their rejection of the measures that some municipalities have adopted against shopping centers, harming thousands of workers and businesses, the most recent case and the one that has aroused the greatest concern is that of Royal Plaza Puruchucoin Ate.
Among the institutions that have recently spoken out are the Association of Shopping and Entertainment Centers of Peru (Accep), the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Related Products (Now Peru) and the Union of Restaurant Guilds of Peru.
“On March 8, Municipality Inspection personnel, illegally and disproportionately decided to close the Real Plaza Puruchuco Shopping Center, among other establishments, having found minor observations that did not put the integrity of people at risk in any way. (…). These types of actions not only affect the Shopping Center, micro-entrepreneurs and businessmen, but also the more than 4,000 workers who work in the premises directly and indirectly,” Ahora Perú highlighted in a statement addressed to the District Municipality of Ate.
For its part, Accep described the measures as “extreme” and asserted that the new municipal authorities “develop a hostile and arbitrary offensive to the detriment of said business activities.”
“We have confirmed that, in all cases, there was no valid reason to proceed radically by closing the premises,” he said.
