The National Board of Justice (JNJ) responded to questions from the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, who described as “illegal” and “arbitrary” that the constitutional body has initiated a preliminary investigation against him.
Through a statement, the JNJ explained that the purpose of the preliminary investigation is to determine “if there is sufficient merit to initiate a disciplinary proceeding.” However, she did not detail which complaints the head of the Public Ministry must respond to.
“We express our concern about the expressions and assessments made by Dr. Benavides (…) The JNJ It is a constitutional body that acts independently and outside of political articulations”, he expressed in his pronouncement.
Earlier, the National Prosecutor harshly criticized the JNJ and assured that the resolution that provides for the initiation of proceedings against him are “null and void.”
“Opening an investigation, clearly illegal, can only be seen as an act of intimidation and obstruction of my prosecutorial function. I do not want to think that this decision is due to the results that the special team of Cuellos Blancos is obtaining, which in the coming months will conclude with the transcription of the audios, ”he said.
Given this, the JNJ He called on “the high authorities of the justice system” to maintain a measured, prudent and compatible public action “with the investiture they exercise.”
