It's been 52 weeks without changing fuel prices

The fuel prices for domestic use and urban transport for the week of February 25 to March 3 will remain unchanged, unlike the avtur (used in aviation) that go down to about 6.19 pesos, reported today the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM).

According to him MICMthe government takes 52 weeks consecutive years, keeping the cost of the most demanded fuels for domestic use unchanged, an action that responds to the “extraordinary” subsidy plan announced by the government of Luis Abinader.

The entity reported, on its website, that in 2022 they were destined 35,500 million of pesos for the subsidy of hydrocarbons in the country. For this week alone, the government assumed some 238.1 million of pesos.

The note says that the International panorama it remains the same for the great energy powers, but above all for non-oil-producing countries, such as the Dominican Republic. “The historical gap between the price of crude oil and refined products, such as diesel and gasoline, which present greater variations, has widened significantly,” he added.

In that order, the Vice Minister of Internal Commerce, Ramón Pérez indicated that the efforts assumed by this government in terms of fuel subsidies, are in search of maintain stability local market and minimize the effects of the international price crisis.

“They have always been thinking about the well-being of all, but with special emphasis on the less favorated and in the national productive apparatus”, he said.

The statement indicates that the international price of diesel and gasoline continues with a high gap with the price of WTI crude, so this week the government assumes, once again, a “sacrifice” of the sum close to 238.1 million of pesos to avoid hikes.

He regular diesel should have raised 21.87 pesos, the optimal diesel 21.51, the premium gasoline about 9.19 pesos and the regular gasoline should increase 8.77 pesos.

The closures of WTI operations per barrel during this week, which has just ended, fluctuated between 73.95 dollars as the minimum value and 78.49 dollars as the highest value quoted at closing.
