The Salto Police seized 1,262 grams of base paste, 483 g of cocaine and $970,950 after the operation “Zorro Viejo”.

Thanks to investigative tasks, the police officers of that department learned that a vehicle would go to Salto “with a load of drugs”. In response, observation posts and a checkpoint were established on Route 3, close to the Termas del Daymán sub-commission station.

Thus, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior, last Tuesday, February 7, the police saw a vehicle “with similar characteristics to the one sought.” Upon reaching the checkpoint, the driver did not stop, “despite the fact that the police officers identified themselves and told him to stop.” The man “He evaded control and repeatedly tried to run over the troops”indicates the police part.

A police vehicle blocked his way but the driver continued, while the troops shot at the wheels to prevent him from fleeing, but the delinquent continued the march. “He went up to the central flowerbed and crossed the path, losing control of the vehicle and misleading, passing the bridge over the Daymán River,” the statement said.

The two occupants of the car were arrested and identified: a 32 year old manholder of four criminal records —two for domestic violence and two for contempt— and a 20 year old womanno criminal record.

In the search of the car, carried out in conjunction with the Scientific Police, the police authorities found a paper bag with $238,000while under the protective plastic of the wiper was located a bag with a brick of 867 grams of base paste. All of this was seized, along with two cell phones.

The woman was released, but the man was sentenced to three years and five months in prison.

Then, the troops raided five homes in Salto. In these operations, they seized: $732,950, A$200,000; 483 grams of cocaine; 396 g of base paste; a .32 caliber revolver; 150 liters of naphtha from Argentina; two Thoroughbreds and a Quarter Horse mare; a truck; a car; a trailer; four cell phones, and a DVR.

In these raids, a 48-year-old man (with 14 criminal records), another 32 (with a criminal record), another 47 and another 18, the latter without criminal records, were also arrested.

This way, the judge sentenced the 48-year-old to 3 years and 10 months in prison, while the 32-year-old was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison. The 18-year-old and the 47-year-old man were summoned.
