The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumer), Eddy Alcantarareported that this entity incinerated thousands of units of dairy products and their derivatives that were withdrawn from the market during operations carried out in the greater Santo Domingo and other cities.
The products were:
- forged
- expired
- Without health registration
Alcántara explained that those dairy products and its derivatives represented a real risk for consumers.
He said some could be determined to be counterfeit products that are manufactured and imported in Dominican Republic“while others were in a very bad state”.
“They did not comply with the quality standards required,” the official said.
He noted that many of these seized products and cremated did not contain labels detailing their content or expiration dates.
He reported that the operations began the first week of this month of February, after receiving numerous complaints from consumers in the sense that products were being marketed without labels, without Health Register and defeated.
Complaints
He assured that based on these complaints, alerts and verification, special operations were created to dedicate themselves solely and exclusively to following up on these consumption irregularities and proceed to withdraw from the market all products that do not comply with the regulatory precepts.
“With the operations, we were able to verify that dairy products and their derivatives were indeed being sold without the proper Health Register and without compliance with established standards, endangering the health of consumers”, said Eddy Alcantara.
He announced that these operations will continue permanently in the great santo domingo and inland towns until ending this illegal practice that threatens the health of consumers.
