Customs seized a competition vehicle of the UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) type because the car entered the country under a scheme of temporary import and exclusively to run the Cordobés Rally championship, but it was being used in another competition, in the province of Catamarca.
The vehicle was seized after its crew member, the Argentine pilot Nicholas Zingoniwill qualify for the South American Rally Race (2023), the official agency reported.
According to what has been explained, the fact that the vehicle was participating in a competition other than the Cordobés Rally constitutes a violation of the agreement on the basis of which he had been authorized to enter the country without paying taxes.
The infraction is typified in article 970 of the Customs Code, which establishes that importers must now pay the taxes from which they had initially been exempted.
Another irregularity detected was that the vehicle was declared to Customs at a value of US$15,000, but an investigation carried out by specialized agents determined that the real amount is more than double, so a fine of more than $14 million could be imposed. .
The vehicle in question, a Polaris RZR Pro, could have been imported into our country directly and paying the corresponding taxes, which would have allowed it to participate in SARR 2023 without problems, the agency indicated.
From Customs, they pointed out that many teams frequently register their cars in Chile and then enter them into Argentina with temporary authorizations, since the trans-Andean country lacks its own automotive industry, it has low import duties for cars.
