The Foreign Ministry’s Secretary for International Economic Relations, Cecilia Todesca Bocco, stated this Sunday that the opposition “has to take responsibility for the things it says, how it says it and why,” and recalled that Argentina “has access problems to international market from the very important debt with the IMF contracted by the previous administration”.

“Argentina has problems accessing the international market because we lost it in 2018, due to a very important debt with the IMF that was contracted by the previous government and implies a strong demand on public numbers,” the official said in an interview. with CNN Radio Argentina.

Todesca Bocco explained in this regard that “The total public debt of the public sector over the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Argentina at the end of 2015 was 53%, while at the end of 2019 it was 90% and today it is at 80%.”

On the other hand, he explained that “the external public debt was 14% in 2015 and they raised it to 43% and today it is at 28.5%.” “Those are the numbers, that’s the reality,” she insisted.

Along these lines, the official maintained that “we must speak based on the numbers” and that “the situation in Argentina is not unsustainable” as some opposition economists have suggested.

“The opposition, like all of us who do politics, has to take responsibility for the things it says, how it says them and why it says them, today the situation in Argentina is not unsustainable”

He also remarked that “We at no time made any statement to destabilize the previous government, quite the contrary.”

Todesca Bocco analyzed that although in the years in which there is a presidential campaign “the tone of the political discussion tends to rise”, it is important “to separate this increase in political tension with what is really happening in the economy to be able to really discuss what is that Argentina lacks and not get lost in the battle between male and female candidates”.

“There are a couple of sectors in the Argentine economy that in the next two or three years are going to bring about a very important change in the balance of payments,” he said, and assessed that for this reason “this is a time to take advantage of and to train the young boys of the production agenda”.

In addition, he considered that the key is “how we generate a better situation in our country and that is the agenda that we are trying to install: lithium, oil and gas, knowledge-based services and regulatory frameworks for these things “.

“It seems to me that the key is there: how we create a better situation for Argentina”reaffirmed Todesca Bocco and pointed out: “Then the people will vote and choose who they want to drive it for the next four years.”
