Transportation presented 45 trucks that will be used in public works throughout the country
Each of the 11 regional offices of the National Highway Directorate of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works will receive between four and five new trucks as part of the renewal of the fleet, for which 2,200,000 dollars were invested, said the owner of that portfolio, Jose Luis Falero. The hierarch expressed that the auction of the disaffected units will provide resources to acquire additional vehicles.
Falero, together with the national director of Roads, Hernán Ciganda, participated in the workshops of that department in Colón, Montevideo, for the presentation of 45 zero-kilometer trucks with a dumper and a single axle.
In statements to the press, the head of the ministry reported that the investment amounted to 2,200,000 dollars and the units will be allocated to the 11 regions of the aforementioned address throughout the country. Four units will go to each of the regional ones, except for Tacuarembó, which will receive five.
Falero added that the units will replace others that require a high maintenance cost, which threatens efficiency in spending, he analyzed. In that sense, he pointed out that the acquisition was through the bidding mechanism.
In turn, he added that each of the regional companies will deliver to the ministry the vehicles that will be deregistered, to which the portfolio will carry out a diagnosis that will be used for evaluation and appraisal prior to their auction. Falero added that the resources obtained will be used in an extension of the tender to acquire complementary units that will allow a significant replacement of the truck fleet.
The new units will contribute, among other tasks, with the “zero ballast” initiative established by the ministerial authorities that seek to improve the 340 kilometers of roads that still have this material, through bituminous treatments.
