However, the work is not without controversy. Precisely this Tuesday, a judge granted a suspension of the construction requested by the environmental group Sélvame del Tren, which had processed an amparo trying to paralyze the construction of one of the sections.
The resolution, although it warns of the destruction of the flora in some 354 hectares of forest, indicates that it will be possible to continue when the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) grants the change of land use.
“The removal or destruction of the flora of the land in appointment is not allowed, in the areas that are outside the surface in which the change of land use in forest lands was authorized,” says the judicial resolution.
Fernando Vázquez Rosas, spokesman for the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), described the news of a definitive suspension as “false”, as the NGO affirms, according to which the process “is not carried out with due process, studies, permits and authorizations”.
“The work continues because the specific consideration of the judge is not to affect the flora in places where there is no change in land use,” Vázquez Rosas alleges.

The Sélvame del Tren collective has insistently alerted about the risks of the Mayan Train and has warned that section 5 south, whose route was changed last January to a jungle area that runs over a system of caves, threatens not only biodiversity, but also the archaeological remains that members of the group have found, those on the surface and underwater.
In addition to the controversial train, Díaz-Canel’s visit has another purpose: to receive López Obrador’s thanks for sending toilets from the Island to the country, whose number currently amounts to 620.
