A total of 27 people, including 5 foreigners (2 Colombians, 2 Indians and 1 Lebanese) were apprehended this Tuesday through the “Ápate” operation, in which 32 search procedures were carried out in different parts of the provinces of Colón. , Chiriquí, Panama and West Panama.
The detainees are allegedly linked to the commission of crimes against the economic order, in the form of financial crimes.
According to the Section for Crimes against the Economic Order of the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office in conjunction with the National Police, this investigation is related to events that revolve around illegal transactions of large sums of money in a local bank, in November 2021, when the victim realized that his account reflected 82 transactions to other external accounts for the sum of B/. 732,475.68, in favor of multiple people.
The bank details of the victim had been changed without his authorization, a new email address had been placed, and a new cell phone number.
In the “Apate” operation, more than 14 thousand balboas were obtained in cash, credit cards as well as electronic devices as well as documents.
They stressed that the 27 apprehended will be placed under the orders of a Judge of Guarantees for the respective hearings of requests for legalization of the apprehension, imputation of charges and application of precautionary measures.
