Through her Instagram account, the rector of the Central University of Venezuela announced the demands made by the University Council of the house of studies, to the government of Nicolás Maduro
The rector of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) Cecilia García Arocha stated that the University Council of the university denounced “the violation of the human right to work at all levels of the educational system and other economic sectors.”
In the publication made from his instagram accountArocha addressed the university community, unions, labor sector unions and civil society to publicize the complaint, reject the salary policies applied by the government of Nicolás Maduro “who have led the workforce into a humanitarian crisis unprecedented in the democratic history of our country.”
For this reason, García Arocha detailed four demands made by the university authorities to the Venezuelan government:
– First: Comply with the constitutional principle according to which education and work They are the fundamental processes to achieve the essential purposes of defense, development and respect for the dignity of the person.
– Second: Comply with the provisions of articles 7, 11 and 13 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights signed by the Venezuelan State regarding the enjoy fair and favorable working conditions for the achievement of an adequate standard of living and the right to quality education.
– Third: Given that the State has actually dollarized the national economy, extend this policy to the salaries of teaching staff and other workers in the university sector, in accordance with article 91 of the Constitution and article 104 of the Law on Universities; in this context, the salaries of the personnel, scholarships and preparatory courses are increased taking as reference the cost of the Basic Basket and the inflationary index in foreign currency.
– Bedroom: Set up a workbench between the competent government entities in this matter and the University Council of the UCV to examine the serious situation.
At the end of his message, he maintained that the UCV University Council “stands in solidarity with the activities organized by the different unions in the campaign to defend the salary and contractual rights of university personnel.”
